The Ark was fashioned after the existing Pa. German Noah's Ark at the Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The Germans believed there were no exotic animals, only domestic functional animals; if you couldn't eat them or use them in their survival they would not be the Ark. The Ark was considered a sacred piece and a very special toy. The Pa. German children were allowed to get the Arks out of storage and play with it only on Sundays, their birthday and the holy Holidays; Christmas and Easter. This only adds up to 55 days out of the year. Included with your Ark are 8 pairs of animals: bulls, deer, horses, sheep, pigs, and rabbits. All are hand carved by Terry. The Ark sits on a base of 5/4 wood with a pointed bow and stern. The Ark itself has 10 windows with a roof that comes off. All of the animals fit inside. |
