The construction of this homestead has one door place on the side with a window. All other sides have one window each. The chimney system is to the right of the peaked roof. The peaked roof would have allowed additional sleeping. The interesting thing about this cabin is that it had NO basement. Dirt floors were the norm. The property had a root cellar of old world construction.
This property sits on the west bank of the Little Northkill Creek. This was a trade route for the Indians and settlers of the time. John Long's brother, Micheal, settled at the foot of the Blue Mt. near Fort Northkill. Michael's family was attacked in early raid by the Indians in the beginning of the French & Indian war.
In the 1750's a Large Log Hotel was built in front of the Settlers cabin.
NOTE: The standards for claiming your property was through a Gentleman's Handshake. You were not required to register your property. 1790-1810 the State resurveyed all properties and Deeds were given.
Price as is: $ 130.00
