1860 Wood Company

Welcome to the 1860 Wood Company.  You are entering a world of 1/2”& 1” scale reproduction Log Homes and Wall Hangings.  Terry had an interest in home building since high school, and attended a two-year school for architectural drafting.  After an injury and major life changes, Terry saw an article in a 1989 issue of Country Living Magazine about Dean Johnson, a contemporary birdhouse artist.  Terry thought it would be interesting to make scaled log houses, since we live in a very rich area, Berks Co. PA.  We specialize in     1700’s Pennsylvania German Log Houses.

Each home is a reproduction of an existing log home from Pennsylvania.  It is also individually handcrafted using vintage wood, gotten from buildings, aging from early 1700’s to 1900.  Terry finds as much history on the log homes he is reproducing and of the wood he is using.

We have started documenting our Log homes back to its original homesteader from the 1700’s.  Our first home is the Pontius House located in northwestern Berks Co.  We also have been commissioned to recreate Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace home.  This piece is the first of a new line of Lincoln Houses. (Both Homes are New for 2004)

My wife Judy and I feel, as the creators of this unique craft, that they will last for many generations to come.  The 1860 Wood Company is located in the heart of the Dutch Country of Berks County, Pennsylvania.

All of the models can be made into:  1” scale Doll Houses, Three way Lamps, Buildings for “G” & “LGB” scale Trains, Wall Hangings, End Tables (NEW FOR 2003) and or a collective showpiece to accessories your home.

Terry is a member of the Reading-Berks Guild, Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, And the Berks Arts Council.  Made the Early American Homes Top 200 List of Traditional Craftsmen in 1997,1998 & 2000.

I have been featured in the Log Home and Design Ideas, Country Accents, Berks Living and Garden Railways Magazines.

In 2001 we were one of four artists chosen by the Pa. Historical, Museums, and Preservations Commission. We represent our State for the White House Christmas tree ornament of Dec. 2001. We built a three-dimension min. Log house; it was a replica of the Dairy Meeting House  Located in Hershey PA. And built in 1732. Many pictures were taken and the Ornament was shown Barbara Walters Special at the White House with Mrs. Bush.

In 1996, I was commissioned to build a scaled model of the Davidheiser Homestead, for the Berks County Heritage Center. The model is on display at the Heritage Center Barn, located  in Berks County.  The home was donated to the Center. The Homestead was built-In the early 1700’s. This home will be rebuilt on the Parks Center grounds.

Terry formed the Goldilocks and the Three Bears Project.  A 1” to 1’ scaled cottage dollhouse. All the furnishings were done by 12 did other Reading-Berks Guild members to complete the Dollhouse. Check it out on its website www.rbcrafts.org  a fun project by all. We appeared countless times on  “Your Berks Craftsman”, BCTV, a local community TV station. We do speak to the public on the    preservation of our heritage in Berks County.  I’m always willing to have an in-depth discussion of the history of your log home.
